   Our Mission

Fowler & Huntting has been in business for over 130 years.  Our mission continues to be to provide fresh, healthy, and safe produce by means of established safe and acceptable handling procedures.  The Fowler and Huntting Co. is the largest and oldest produce distributor in Connecticut.  Our volume is significant enough to source all products directly from the finest farms, shippers, and manufacturers eliminating any unnecessary brokers or middleman.

Integrity and honesty have always been a big part of our values and strengths in our business transactions.  We believe in the benefits of promoting locally grown produce and we encourage customers to use seasonally grown local produce.  We are presently selling a complete line of organic produce and many organic fruits and vegetables will be stocked from local organic farms. We also teamed up with these farms to continue with plans of  future year-round organic green house growing.  It is our intention to provide fresh and healthy produce from the best of national and local growers.

Our History

Fowler & Huntting is the oldest wholesale distributor of produce in Connecticut, and one of the oldest in the country. In 1865 David T. Fowler opened the doors of Fowler, Davis and Hoyt at 131 State Street in Hartford, Connecticut, on what is now the site of Constitution Plaza.

Originally, the company sold butter, cheese, eggs, and poultry, but soon began selling fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Some of the produce came from local farmers, but much of it shipped from foreign and domestic markets via the Connecticut River to docks at the end of State Street.

The new company quickly gained a reputation for quality and freshness, and soon was growing its own oranges on land it had purchased in Florida.

In 1880, the company moved to the corner of Ann and Allyn Streets, now the site of the Hartford Civic Center, and in 1896 to a building the company had constructed at 191 Ann Street which is now known as the "Russian Lady."

Incorporated in 1903, the company, known variously as Fowler Brothers, Fowler Bros., Inc., Fowler & Huntting, and Fowler and Huntting, Inc., remained at 191 Ann Street until 1952, when its present owners moved to the Connecticut Regional Market at 101 Reserve Road, Hartford.

Fowler and Huntting backs up its products with the reputation of the oldest and most respected wholesaler of produce in Connecticut. The company still operates with the integrity and reliability that has earned the respect of the Hartford community for over one hundred and thirty nine years.

Our Distribution Center is located at 105 Reserve Road.
